Quantum Break

Quantum Break: the biggest selling standalone Xbox One title

Quantum Break, the latest blockbuster game from Microsoft Studios, has become the company’s biggest selling standalone title on the Xbox One.

Quantum Break, the first Microsoft-published game to top the UK charts since Halo 5: Guardians in November last year, beat offroad racing title DiRT Rally to the number one spot. The pair knocked dystopian shooter Tom Clancy’s The Division into third place, ending its four-week reign at the summit.

Jon Edney, senior category manager at Xbox Studios, said: “We’re delighted that Quantum Break has been so well received by fans and critics… [It] is already surpassing expectations. The game has already built up a passionate fanbase and we look forward to seeing and hearing about their experiences.”

Quantum Break focuses on Jack Joyce, who is hunted by agents from a company called Monarch Solutions as he mourns the loss of his brother.

It is part video game and part live action television show, featuring X-Men star Shawn Ashmore, Game of Thrones’ Aidan Gillen and Dominic Monaghan, who starred in Lord of the Rings.

“Whereas in the game you play the hero of the experience, the live action show is about the bad guys – you get a point of view into the story from their angle,” Sam Lake, the game’s creative director, told the Standard.

“It’s very much in the style of a modern television series, where characters are often very flawed – almost bad guys. This is our take on that.

“On the game side you can do huge memorable moments. Then again, what a TV show does best is human drama, and having the show there, it’s possible to bring a larger ensemble cast into the mix and just make sure that we have that side represented as well.”
