Forza Horizon 4 pits gamers against each other in new battle royale mode The Eliminator
Forza Horizon 4 has unveiled a new battle royale mode that pits 72 gamers against each other to earn upgrades and faster cars.
The Eliminator is set within an arena in the British, open-world Forza Horizon 4 map, with drivers eliminating one another in head-to-head races. The walls of the arena contract throughout the game, forcing players closer together until a final race among the survivors determines the winner.
All participants start in a 1965 Mini Cooper. However, in order to win The Eliminator they must scour the Forza Horizon 4 map in search of Car Drops, which offer an instant upgrade, or challenge other drivers to a head-to-head race. Once challenged players must accept; the game then selects a finish line and both drivers must race to try to get there first. The loser is eliminated from the game and the winner is given a choice: upgrade their car to a more powerful one or steal their opponent’s car.
The Eliminator is available for anyone playing the open-world racing game on Xbox, Windows 10 and Xbox Game Pass.
Mike Brown, Principal Game Designer at Forza Horizon creator Playground Games, wrote in a blog post: “You might choose to hide until the end but be careful as the arena walls move fast. Get stuck outside and you will be eliminated. If you manage to survive until the arena reaches its final size, the final showdown begins and all surviving players must race to the finish line. The first driver there is declared The Eliminator.”
The Eliminator is available to play now and comes with its own mini-campaign and rewards for players to unlock – including the 2008 Renault Mégane R26.R, the 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS Pre-Order Edition and the 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator, as well as The Eliminator-branded character clothing.
Forza Horizon 4 has won a string of awards since it was launched last year, including a BAFTA for Best British Game. The latest game in the popular racing franchise is set in Britain and features popular landmarks such as Edinburgh Castle. Featuring vehicles from history and the present day, it also contains changeable weather seasons for the first time in a Forza game, so players have to adapt their playing style to drive in hot and dry summer conditions and then in the snow and ice of winter.
Playground Games will host a livestream on Mixer at 4pm (UK time) on December 13, in which they will staff at the studio will go head-to-head with the gaming community in The Eliminator.
