Guardians of the Galaxy and Abzu: the latest games you should play this weekend
As E3, the biggest gaming event of the year, approaches, gamers have plenty of offerings on the Windows Store to keep them occupied until the Xbox event live stream kicks off at 10pm on Sunday.
This week, we’ve got everything from funky platformer puzzle action to dark and tense psychological thrillers, providing a little something for everyone:
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series delivers a new story involving the universe’s unlikeliest heroes – a band of familiar outlaws consisting of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot. In the wake of an epic battle, the Guardians discover an artifact of unspeakable power, and each Guardian has a reason to own it, as does a ruthless enemy who is the last of her kind who will stop at nothing to tear it from their hands. Set to an incredible soundtrack, this five-part episodic series puts you in the rocket-powered boots of Star-Lord in an original Guardians adventure.

Abzu
Abzu is a beautiful underwater adventure that evokes the dream of diving. Immerse yourself in a stunning, vibrant ocean world full of mystery, bursting with colour and life, while performing fluid acrobatics as a diver. Discover hundreds of unique species based on real creatures and form a powerful connection with the abundant sea life. Interact with schools of thousands of fish that procedurally respond to you, each other and predators. But beware, dangers lurk in the depths.

Kholat
Narrated by Sean Bean, this award-winning title is an exploration adventure game with elements of horror, inspired by a true event known as the Dyatlov Pass incident – the mysterious deaths of nine Russian hikers, which led to countless, unconfirmed hypotheses. The player will plunge directly into the boundless scenery of the inhospitable Ural Mountains with the task to find out what really happened. In the course of events, you may come across more speculations than expected. Watch your back.

Yooka-Laylee (Windows 10)
Yooka-Laylee is an all-new open-world platformer that sees you explore huge, beautiful worlds, meet (and beat) an unforgettable cast of characters and horde a vault-load of shiny collectibles as buddy-duo Yooka (the green one) and Laylee (the wisecracking bat with the big nose) embark on an epic adventure to thwart corporate creep Capital B and his devious scheme to absorb all the world’s books. Definitely one for puzzle and platformer fans.

The Town of Light
Inspired by true events and real places, this tense thriller is played through the eyes of Renée, a 16-year-old girl who suffers from the symptoms of mental illness.
