Microsoft sets out to make UK more efficient by launching Azure Automation in data centres

Microsoft customers who use the company’s UK data centres can now work more efficiently after the launch of Azure Automation.

Companies and organisations, including the Ministry of Defence, the Met Police and parts of the NHS, will now be able to automatically run lengthy and error-prone tasks by using the power of Microsoft’s cloud service.

Azure Automation will save time and increase the reliability of administration tasks that have to be conducted by businesses, such as checking whether they have exceeded the size of their online database or overseeing security measures.

What is Azure Automation?

Alex Taylor, Azure Lead for UK Public Sector at Microsoft, said: “More cloud management capabilities are now available in the UKDC with the arrival of Azure Automation. Through consistent, automatic tasks, this service helps to alleviate overhead costs and time pressures of cloud management, working across Azure, AWS and other third party clouds. Get up and running quickly with your automation tasks with sample and scenario scripts available from The Automation Runbook Gallery.”

It is just the latest feature unveiled by Microsoft for its UK data centres. Last month the company launched the Azure ExpressRoute and PSN/N3 Connectivity feature, which allows customers to use private connections.

Microsoft opened its Azure and Office 365 cloud offering in this country in September. Since then, thousands of customers – including Aston Martin and Capita – have signed up to take advantage of the sites, which offer UK data residency, security and reliability.

Other new services include:

      • Azure Security Centre, which helps customers prevent, detect and respond to threats, giving them full visibility and control over their secure network.
      • Service Fabric lets developers focus on building features for their applications, without needing to design and write additional code to deal with reliability, scalability or latency.
      • Azure Marketplace is an online store featuring thousands of certified and open source applications, developer service and data.

The cloud regions in the UK – Microsoft is the first global cloud provider to offer a complete and trusted cloud solution from data centres in this country – are now part of one the world’s largest online storage infrastructures, supported by more than 100 data centres globally. These hold over 30 trillion pieces of data and are backed by billions of dollars in investment since 1989.
