PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds racks up three million gamers on Xbox One in less than a month
More than three million gamers are playing PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) on Xbox One, Microsoft has announced.
Following its success on PC, the multiplayer online battle royale was exclusively launched on the Xbox One on December 12. Since then the game’s popularity has grown, with millions of people joining the PUBG community on the console.
Aaron Greenberg, head of Xbox Games Marketing, wrote in a blog post: “Since PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds launched on Xbox One through the Xbox Game Preview program, it’s been awesome to see the excitement and passion on display from the Xbox community. Whether you’re streaming in the HypeZone on Mixer or battling for a chicken dinner with your squad, players on Xbox are helping build and improve the game on console.
“You’ll continue to see regular updates roll out for PUBG on Xbox One, such as the addition of first-person support for solo, duo and squads gameplay, and the team is just getting started, with more updates planned that include additional game optimization and the new Miramar map.”
In the game, up to 100 players parachute onto an island and scavenge for weapons and equipment to kill others while avoiding getting killed themselves. It has proved to be a huge hit since its release on PC in March, selling more than 20 million copies.
It has also been enhanced for the Xbox One X – the most powerful console ever made – with HDR support.
Last month, PUBG Creative Director Brendan Greene sat down with Xbox to answer fans’ questions on gameplay, the odds of winning and his excitement in bringing a whole new community of console gamers to PUBG:
