Surface Studio gets UK release date

The Surface Studio, a Microsoft device designed for creatives and professionals, will be released in the UK next month, the company has announced.

Microsoft used a special event in Shanghai on Tuesday to reveal that the all-in-one PC is available to pre-order now and will ship in June.

The Surface Studio transforms from a workstation into a digital canvas, allowing creative professionals to use Surface Pen or touch to write and draw on the thinnest LCD monitor ever built.

The Zero Gravity Hinge allows the screen to adjust to each stage of the creative process. When the screen transitions from Desktop Mode to Studio Mode, it sits at a 20-degree angle, the same angle as a standard drafting board, making it ideal for sketching, writing and designing.

The Windows 10 device boasts a 28-inch, ultra-HD 4.5K screen, with 13.5 million pixels – 63% more than a state-of-the-art 4K TV. The 6th Generation Intel Core processors accelerated by an NVIDIA GeForce GPU deliver smooth and immersive graphics and the power to run professional programs such as Siemens’ NX software.

Architects can sketch their ideas with the Surface Pen, put them into production using powerful 3D modeling software, and review and mark up plans with a client, all on one device. Surface Studio also works with Dial, a new device designed for the creative process that lets users use two hands on the screen.

“From the beginning, our Surface journey has been about empowering people to work and create in new ways,” said Terry Myerson, Executive Vice-President of the Windows and Devices Group. “It led us to create the first tablet that could truly replace your laptop with Surface Pro and to redefine the ultimate laptop with Surface Book.

“We believe there is a special alchemy when a device and software pair perfectly to create something new – a profound experience that can create an entirely new category. We want to help you make your mark on the world and for Windows to be the place you love to create and play.”

Surface Studio was initially unveiled at Microsoft’s Windows 10 Devices Event in October last year, but has since only been available in select markets. From June 15, it will be released in the UK, Austria, France, Germany, Netherlands, Nordics, Switzerland, China, Hong Kong and Japan.
