Xbox lets UK gamers customise their controllers with Design Lab
Xbox is launching its controller customisation programme in the UK, Microsoft has announced.
The Xbox Design Lab allows gamers to choose the colours of their accessory and engrave it with a personal message.
Up until now the service has only been available in the US and Canada, with hundreds of thousands of designs being created since it was announced last year. Microsoft revealed on Monday that it will now be rolled out to the UK, France and Germany, with more European countries to follow later this year.
Microsoft has also announced more customisation options, taking the total number of design options to more than a billion:
Four new colours, including Ink Blue, Mineral Blue, Sierra Brown and Desert Tan
- 11 new thumbstick colours, including Glacier Blue, Zest Orange, Retro Pink, Electric Green, Robot White, Lightning Yellow, Ash Gray, Ink
- Blue, Mineral Blue, Sierra Brown and Desert Tan
- New metallic finishes for D-pads and triggers to add a premium look to controllers
- Black rubberised grips for added comfort and control

The new options come on top of the colour variations already announced for the controller body, back case, D-pad, bumpers, triggers, thumb sticks, ABXY, View and Menu buttons. Gamers can also personalize their controller with laser engraving to add their name, Gamertag or custom 16-character message.
Customised controllers can be used with the Xbox One family of devices and Windows 10 PCs, and are compatible with the Xbox One Play & Charge Kit, Chat Headset, Stereo Headset and Chatpad. They feature Bluetooth and can be used at a range of up to 40 feet.
The controllers start at £69.99, and pricing may vary for additional options. Xbox is offering a free engraving for all Xbox Wireless Controllers purchased through Xbox Design Lab until June 19. Each controller is made to order and will be delivered within 14 business days of an order being placed.
The news came a day after the Xbox One X, the world’s most powerful console, was officially unveiled at the E3 videogame conference.
The new Xbox – previously codenamed Project Scorpio – will be released in November, and offers 40% more power than any other console, with better graphics and sound.
Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox, also used E3 to announce 42 new titles for the Xbox One family of devices, with 22 of those exclusive to the consoles.
